Buona Foods is a fourth generation family-owned and operated mushroom farm founded in 1975 by RoRo Ferranto, the daughter of Italian immigrants. With her husband Bear’s help, RoRo began distributing packaged mushrooms to regional stores and restaurants, building up a company that is now run by her children and grandchildren.
The basic farming techniques have largely remained the same over the years, with mushrooms still being cultivated indoors and harvested by hand off of wooden beds. Cultivated mushrooms are in their peak harvest season 365 days a year, thanks to the fact that they are grown indoors and hand-picked fresh daily. Since the company's inception, Buona Foods has grown from one farm into three growing facilities and a packing house.
In addition to growing and packing mushrooms, Buona Foods is also closely involved with the Pennsylvania Farm Show, the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival, and numerous charities including the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Ferranto family promotes a culture of honesty, hard work, and giving back to the community, values that are practiced each day by everyone at Buona Foods, from harvesters to drivers to customer service.
